What's New at NETA

NETA ACHIEVES NCCA ACCREDITATION FOR GROUP EXERCISE INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION: All of NETA’s Certification programs are now accredited by NCCA!
Who and what is NCCA (National Commission for Certifying Agencies)?

The National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) is the accreditation body of the National Organization for Credentialing Agencies (NOCA). NOCA, established in 1977, is the leader in setting quality standards for credentialing organizations. Through its annual conference, regional seminars, and publications, NOCA serves its membership as a clearinghouse for information on the latest trends and issues of concern to practitioners and organizations focused on certification, licensure, and human resource development. Certification programs may apply and be accredited by the NCCA if they demonstrate compliance with each of the 21, rigorous accreditation standards. The standards are designed to assure that the certifying agency can accurately and fairly measure a certificant's professional competence through standardized testing.

What are the goals of accreditation?
The answer is two-fold:

  1. One critical goal of accreditation is to provide the general public with reasonable assurance that the fitness professional they employ is deemed competent and professional by a reputable, accredited, certifying organization.
  2. IHRSA (International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association) has issued a "recommendation" that all clubs in their association only hire Personal Trainers who are certified by an NCCA accredited certifying agency as of January 1st, 2006. Although this is only a recommendation it carries strong (positive) implications for the fitness industry as a whole.

NETA CONTINUING EDUCATION PROVIDER PROGRAM
Continuing education is an industry standard that all fitness professionals must pursue to remain abreast of current industry guidelines. The primary reason continuing education was created was to protect the public to ensure fitness instructors and personal trainers know current safety guidelines. NETA certified fitness professionals must invest 20 hours of their time every two years as a re-certification requirement, thus earning 1 credit for every hour of investment. One way to earn credits is to attend fitness workshops that have been pre-approved by the industry.

Until now, the only way to earn NETA credits was to attend workshops developed by NETA or to complete NETA approved home study course purchased through the NETA brochure.

NETA is now looking for industry leaders who have developed quality continuing education courses that are within the scope of practice for the fitness professional. If you have such a course that benefits fitness professionals, we would like hear from you. We would like to invite you to become a NETA Continuing Education Provider!

As a NETA Continuing Education Provider, your course will be recognized and sought after by thousands of fitness professionals seeking education. Additionally, the benefits to you as a NETA Continuing Education Provider are many:

1. Earn revenue from marketing your course to NETA certified professionals
2. Industry Recognition as a NETA CEC Provider
